The Ides of March

I’m not a very big government or politics kind of person, but two things made me want to watch this movie: Ryan Gosling and George Clooney. Okay, that was supposed to be one thing, and the second thing was because this movie got a ton of Golden Globe nominations. I mean, Ryan Gosling is so swoon-worthy, no? George Clooney is probably on top of a lot of girls’ “hot old guys” list. And being nominated for so many categories of the Golden Globes.. it’s got to be somewhat of a decent movie, right?

George Clooney plays his part very well as the governor of Pennsylvania - he’s charismatic and such a smooth talker. (Quite jealous.) But oh man, Ryan Gosling is so great at playing a passionate hotshot on the campaign staff. Everything he does is intense. But I mean, that’s what makes him a great actor, right? Think: The Notebook, Crazy, Stupid, Love, and now, Ides of March

This film doesn’t get too into a lot of details about all the political stuff - which is, I think, ideal because for people like me, it just might make my head spin - but just enough to really get the gist of how loyalty, inappropriateness, and a little blackmail can play a big part in dirty politics. The movie is a little over 1.5 hours, but it certainly didn’t feel very long because I was pretty drawn into it. The ending is kind of an “abrupt” ending, but if you think about it.. it all makes sense!

Go watch it! Or not. :)
