The Ides of March
I’m not a very big government or politics kind of person, but two things made me want to watch this movie: Ryan Gosling and George Clooney. Okay, that was supposed to be one thing, and the second thing was because this movie got a ton of Golden Globe nominations. I mean, Ryan Gosling is so swoon-worthy, no? George Clooney is probably on top of a lot of girls’ “hot old guys” list. And being nominated for so many categories of the Golden Globes.. it’s got to be somewhat of a decent movie, right?
George Clooney plays his part very well as the governor of Pennsylvania - he’s charismatic and such a smooth talker. (Quite jealous.) But oh man, Ryan Gosling is so great at playing a passionate hotshot on the campaign staff. Everything he does is intense. But I mean, that’s what makes him a great actor, right? Think: The Notebook, Crazy, Stupid, Love, and now, Ides of March.
This film doesn’t get too into a lot of details about all the political stuff - which is, I think, ideal because for people like me, it just might make my head spin - but just enough to really get the gist of how loyalty, inappropriateness, and a little blackmail can play a big part in dirty politics. The movie is a little over 1.5 hours, but it certainly didn’t feel very long because I was pretty drawn into it. The ending is kind of an “abrupt” ending, but if you think about it.. it all makes sense!
Go watch it! Or not. :)

I’m pretty picky when it comes to movies (weird, I know, since I watch so many TV shows), but this one is kind of a winner! The story goes: Tommy Conlon comes back home to get trained by his father for Sparta, the “biggest winner-takes-all event in mixed martial arts history.” His brother, Brendan, is an ex-fighter that turned into a teacher, but becomes a fighter again to keep his family from filing for bankruptcy. Okay, don’t want to ruin the movie for you.. but you can probably guess what happens.
Now, I’m no expert in MMA. Heck, I know almost nothing about MMA, but the action in this movie was pretty tight! (It was kind of weird - these people to the right of us kept clapping at the end of every round.)
I guess, overall, I really liked this movie cause there was a lot of action involved, it was a story of an underdog rising to the top, and there was definitely a lot on family values. The ending was even a bit of a tear jerker for me! And even better, this was the first movie I watched in a movie theatre where I didn’t take a quick nap.
Joel Edgerton, who played Brendan, played his character pretty well - he was a great teacher, a diligent fighter, a distraught son, a loving husband and father, and a wonderful brother. I’ve actually never seen him in anything else, but he is going to be in The Great Gatsby! Going to look out for that. Tom Hardy, who played Tommy, was in Inception. (Never watched Inception, so I wouldn’t know if he played a big part.. but cool nonetheless?) Jennifer Morrison was in this movie, too!
Anyways, all in all. I totally recommend watching this movie. I think it’s worth paying to watch it on the big screen! Well, I didn’t pay for it, but at least I thought it was worth Chris’ money, heh.

Guilty.
I just finished watching Something Borrowed with the boy. (We watched the first half last night, and finished it today!)
I dislike chick flicks, but decided to give this one a try. Ugh, the first half of the movie was so slow and unnecessary (keep in mind, half of the movie = 1 hour). The second half picked up its pace, but it was still, like typical chick flicks, totally predictable and cheesy.
I’m not a big fan of Ginnifer Goodwin, Kate Hudson wasn’t in as many scenes as I would’ve liked, and Colin Egglesfield is whatevs. The only good part of the movie was John Krasinski. I thought his Ethan character was very real, and I would’ve fallen for him! Don’t want to ruin the ending, but it definitely was not what I wanted. But what can you say? Chick flicks have to end with chick flicky endings..
Think I’m going to stick with non-chick-flick movies from now on.
